A writer and the director of FindingGodIn.org, Kelly Monroe Kullberg founded The Veritas Forum while serving as a chaplain with the Harvard Graduate School Christian Fellowship. The Veritas Forum was founded to help students explore life’s hardest questions in relation to Jesus Christ and the biblical worldview upon which Harvard was established. Kelly Monroe Kullberg and fellow graduate students also served children and widows in need in Peru by helping build a school for them in the rainforest near Pucallpa through Food for the Hungry, Inc.

Food for the Hungry is a Christian humanitarian nonprofit organization that seeks to end all kinds of poverty through development programs, advocacy, and disaster relief. In Peru, Food for the Hungry’s work started in 1982 when the organization responded to a flood that ravaged the country. Later, formal work in Peru was organized through soup kitchens, healthcare programs, community development projects, and child sponsorship.

Child sponsorship includes helping parents in raising their children the right way. This is an important facet of child sponsorship since family violence is prevalent and a norm in Peruvian culture. Part of Food for the Hungry’s work is giving parents a copy of the Bible.

Through the guidance of Food for the Hungry volunteers, Peruvian mothers receive training on domestic violence and stress management with the Bible as the foundation of all instruction. The Bible has helped these mothers guide their daughters in the “right way” and maintain good relationships with their husbands.
