Gardening is a rewarding activity, but as a beginner, there are a lot of things that need to be learned. Below are some of the common gardening mistakes associated with beginners:

1. Planting Mint in Beds

Mint should not be planted in ground-garden beds, as it grows multiple underground runners, taking up space occupied by other plants. The best place to plant mint is in containers to ensure they grow in their allocated spaces.

2. Planting Bulbs Upside-down

Garlic, onions, and other bulbs have both a stem-growing and a root-growing end. Knowing and identifying the correct side (root-side) that should be planted is important. When bulbs are planted wrongly, there is delayed growth as the top and root try to identify the best direction they should grow.

3. Crowding Plants

Space between plants is critical as it determines the success of any gardening project. When sowing seeds, the space a plant shall occupy when fully grown should be considered. When too many seeds are sown in a single pot or container, none of the plants might attain full maturity. In this case, thinning is required (a procedure of getting rid of excess seeds to facilitate proper growth).
